Ghana, through the Ministry of Education, has signed an agreement with Germany for support to develop the skills of its youth in the Technical, Vocational and Educational Training (TVET) sector.

The agreement was signed when the German Federal Minister of Education and Research, Anja Karliczek and her entourage paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku-Prempeh.

Madam Karliczek pledged her country’s readiness to support Africa, especially Ghana to grow its economy.

Per the agreement, Germany will assist the country to establish skills training centres with ultra-modern training equipment, and accreditation of TVET schools with credible certification.

Dr Opoku-Prempeh said the lack of industrialisation had made it difficult for the country to modernise its economy.

According to him, Ghana is globally known for its cocoa and quality chocolate yet lack chocolate production factories.

He said, it was for this reason that the government had initiated the ‘One-District, One- Factory’ programme to provide practical hands-on jobs for the youth.

The Minister, therefore, appealed to Germany to assess and consider an immediate to short-term plan to help Ghana to improve its skills training.
