The FA Cup Committee Vice Chairman and right hand man to Liberia’s president elect, Kofi Poku, has stated unequivocally that President-elect George Oppong Weah deserves to be the first man in his country, Liberia.
He disclosed that Mr Weah, the football icon is highly honoured by the mandate given to him by his home country.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Mr Poku disclosed that ‘George Weah is very humbled by what is happening in Liberia now”.
He added that, “I have known him for a long time and I know presidency won’t change him”.
“George is a good person, he cares about his people and wants the best for his country”, he added.
Mr George Oppong Weah, won the first round of the Presidential elections in October with 38.4% of the vote, against the 28.8% of the incumbent Vice president, Mr BoakaiHis failure to secure an outright majority forced a run-off.
However, the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia stated on Thursday 28th December, that with 98.1% of the run-off vote counted, Mr Weah had won 61.5% of the vote while Mr Boakai was far behind with 38.5%.
Mr George Weah, will succeed Ellen Johnson Sir leaf, Africa’s first elected female President. She defeated Mr Weah in the Presidential elections run-off in 2005, after the end of a brutal civil war.
The former football star’s campaign – under the Coalition for Democratic Change [CDD] banner – appealed to the youth vote, while incumbent Vice President Mr Boakai was seen as old and out of touch.
