The Ghana Education Service (GES) has declared Friday, September 25, 2026, as National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for teachers and staff across the country.
The initiative is the Service’s efforts to promote the continuous professional development of education personnel and enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
Continuous Professional Development refers to the ongoing process through which professionals update their knowledge, skills and expertise throughout their careers. For teachers, this may involve training in new teaching methods, curriculum changes, assessment techniques, educational technology and emerging issues affecting the classroom.
This year’s National CPD Day will be held under the theme, “Assessment in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Empowering Teachers to Assess Learning.”
The theme is expected to focus attention on how the growing use of AI is influencing the way students learn and how teachers assess their understanding, while equipping teachers with relevant knowledge and skills to assess learning effectively in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
In a directive to all Regional Directors, GES Management urged them to disseminate the information to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors, Regional Managers of Education Units and Heads of Schools within their respective regions.
Regional Directors have also been tasked to coordinate the necessary arrangements to ensure full participation and the successful implementation of the CPD activities.
The Service said it was counting on the cooperation of all stakeholders to make the programme impactful and contribute meaningfully to the professional development of teachers and other education personnel.
