Former Ghana High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Emmanuel Victor Smith is predicting a collapse of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagship free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
According to him, the policy though laudable is giving the Akufo-Addo led government “nightmares” because they failed to plan.
The free SHS which absorbs school fees for all students eligible has been rolled out and questions about the source and sustainability of funding for the ambitious programme has come up again.

Many believe the introduction of the double track system which will see students running shifts ahead of admissions in September is a sign of things falling apart.
But, Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has allied fears of parents insisting that, they are not oblivious of the obstacles ahead with the implementation of the free SHS policy.
However on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Victor Smith said it is obvious government rushed in the implementation of its campaign promise.

He said funding for the programme is not adequate and many of the second cycle schools also lack basic infrastructure.
The former Ghana High Commissioner to UK noted that, the Akufo-Addo government did not do its homework well before introducing the policy.
“We have been vindicated because they are doing Mahama’s progressively free SHS” he added.

Ambassador Victor Smith urged President Akufo-Addo to render an unqualified apology to Ghanaians for misleading them and take his time to implement the policy.
Ghanaians are very lazy and therefore conform to any policy that will alleviate our burden. This is going to serve as a lesson, our leaders are gambling with our future education should not be politicised . Thanks
