Five suspected land guards are in police custody for allegedly invading a property at East Legon, forcing out tenants, demolishing a four-bedroom house, and assaulting residents with cutlasses.
The suspects Abdul Razak, 33, an operator; Jibril Adam, 42, a contractor; Toufiq Muniru, 27, a trader; Mutala Adams, 42, a commercial motor rider; and Mohammed Ahmed, 42, a labourer, were arrested in connection with the incident at Ability near Adjiringanor.
According to the brief facts of the case presented by the prosecuting officer, DSP Nyamekye, a UK-based landowner, purchased the plot in 1996 from the Oppong We Family and constructed a four-bedroom house, which he rented to tenants.
On 20 August 2026, a group of land guards led by the first accused allegedly stormed the property, ordered the tenants to leave or be forced out, and later demolished the building and damaged the iron gate.
The suspects are also accused of entering an adjoining compound, where they assaulted Gladys Asiedu and inflicted cutlass wounds on a worker and his son.
They reportedly threatened to return and start new construction on the land.
The matter was transferred to the CID Headquarters Operations Unit on 26 August. The five men have been charged with conspiracy to cause unlawful damage and causing unlawful damage.
They remain in custody after failing to meet their bail conditions and are expected to reappear before Accra Circuit Court III on 23 September 2026.
