The family of slain military officer, Captain Maxwell Mahama, has said it has accepted a proposal from some organizations to create an endowment fund to receive generous contributions from Ghanaians.

The contributions are meant to support the upkeep of the bereaved family.

Following the death of Captain Mahama, many watchers of social media have observed what appears to be the activities of fraudsters who claim to be receiving donations on behalf of the family.

Some have taken to various social media platforms including Facebook and crowd funding platform, GoFundMe, to raise money supposedly on the authority of the family.

The spokesperson for the family, Zakaria Sakara at a press conference on Saturday, said Ghanaians must beware of unauthorized individuals claiming to be receiving donations on behalf of the family.

The following are official accounts announced by the family to receive donations from the public.

The deceased, an officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion, was lynched and partly burnt by some youth of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region on Monday, May 29, 2017, on suspicion that he was an armed robber.

Over 20 suspects have so far been arrested by the police in connection with the murder, seven of which have already made an appearance in court and have been remanded to police custody until 19th June 2017.

His death has rekindled the debate on mob justice, and the need to end the canker.
