Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says he is satisfied with his team’s preparations for the 2026/27 season as the Porcupine Warriors continue to adapt to his methods ahead of a demanding opening schedule.
Kotoko spent more than two weeks in Accra for their pre-season camp, with the South African using the period to assess his players and integrate several new signings into the squad.
Tinkler, who is preparing for his first full campaign in charge, said the players had embraced his approach both on and off the pitch.
“I have been quite happy with our preparations, the players obviously getting to know me and obviously me getting to know the players better in terms of their work ethic, character and personality, and obviously what they are capable of doing on the field of play,” Tinkler told the club’s media.
The former Cape Town City coach has overseen significant changes to the squad during the off-season, with a number of new arrivals strengthening his options ahead of the new campaign.
He said one of his priorities had been ensuring the newcomers understood the standards he expects from the team.
“There are a lot of new faces coming into the squad, so it’s very important for them to learn what my expectations are in terms of the things I call the non-negotiables, and the players have responded extremely well.”
Kotoko’s competitive season begins with one of Ghana’s biggest fixtures when they take on rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2026 Democracy Cup.
The Kumasi-based club will then open their Ghana Premier League campaign with an away trip to newly promoted Debibi United as Tinkler looks to make a positive start to his tenure.
