The Electoral Commission (EC) will today, February 11, convene the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) as part of preparations for the Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026. The session will take place at the EC’s corporate headquarters in Accra.
The EC stated that the meeting will focus exclusively on arrangements and procedures for conducting the by-election, instructing political parties to send no more than two representatives each.
The by-election was triggered by the death of the sitting MP, Mahama Naser Toure, on January 4, 2026, following a brief illness.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially acclaimed Baba Ali as its parliamentary candidate, following consultations and a review of candidates who could effectively mobilize support within the limited campaign period.
In the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, Ghana’s High Commissioner, Baba Jamal, emerged as the party’s candidate.
The election faced calls for annulment amid allegations of vote buying and inducement, which were investigated by a three-member committee. The committee has since submitted its report, clearing Baba Jamal to represent the NDC in the by-election.
