Driver crashes woman, 54, to death at Bibiani Old Town

A 54-year-old woman has died after being knocked down by a Toyota Hilux at Bibiani Old Town in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality.

The deceased, identified as Mary Gamage, was reportedly crossing the road when the incident occurred.

According to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in Bibiani, the suspect, 42-year-old Fredrick Ampadu Yeboah, was driving a Toyota Hilux with registration number GE 2119-19 from Goaso towards Bibiani.

Police say the driver allegedly failed to exercise due care upon reaching a section of the road at Bibiani Old Town and knocked down the pedestrian.

Mary Gamage sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Assembly Member for Old Town, Mubarik Zakari, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the suspect has been arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Bibiani mortuary.
