The Headmistress of Dichemso M/A School, Helena Amponsah, says teachers are going house-to-house in the Dichemso suburb of Kumasi to encourage pupils to return to the classroom following the suspension of the teachers’ strike.

According to her, although teachers reported to school in full on the first day after the suspension, pupil attendance remained low.

Speaking to Adom News, she said the absence of many pupils had left some classrooms partially empty.

“We have 30 pupils in Form One, but only 16 reported to school. We hope the others will return in the coming days,” she said.

Madam Amponsah said the school had introduced extra classes and extended teaching hours to help pupils cover topics missed during the strike.

She added that additional lessons would be organised, particularly for Form Three students, to enable them to catch up with the syllabus before completing school.

The headmistress further expressed gratitude to the leadership of the teachers’ unions for advocating for improved conditions for teachers.
