Ghanaian-UK entrepreneur and host of Konnected Minds, Derrick Abaitey, has encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to consider business ideas centred on essential human needs, identifying healthcare, food, shelter and education as sectors with consistent demand.

Speaking on The Career Trail on Joy Learning TV and JoyNews, Abaitey explained that entrepreneurs who operate in these areas often have an advantage because they provide services that people cannot do without.

“One of the advantages we have in the West is the fact that the systems work. Now, it is a needed service,” he said.

According to him, businesses that address basic needs do not always require aggressive marketing to attract customers because the demand already exists.

“Healthcare, shelter and food, these three areas, people don’t fight over getting customers. People walk into a supermarket. You can have 50 people selling tomatoes, and everybody will still get sales because it’s food,” he explained.

He noted that housing is another sector with a constant market because people will always require places to live.

“People need to sleep,” he added.

Beyond these areas, Abaitey also identified education as a sector with long-term potential, particularly in Africa where many people continue to seek opportunities to improve their skills and knowledge.

“The last one, which is very popular in Africa, is education. Everyone wants to be educated,” he said.

“Take these four. Pick a business idea in there. You don’t have to beg people. You just need to prove that you can provide a service,” he emphasized.

He concluded that successful entrepreneurship begins with understanding people’s needs and creating solutions that add real value to their lives.
