Tension is rising in Danchira and surrounding communities after residents accused the police and government of abandoning a 17-year-old student who was shot during a demolition exercise linked to a private developer.

The incident occurred during a disputed demolition operation at Danchira in the Greater Accra Region and has sparked anger among residents and traditional leaders, who are demanding justice and immediate government intervention.

The victim, Seth Lamptey, a senior high school student, was reportedly hit in the stomach by a stray bullet while returning home during the exercise on May 6, 2026.

The shooting happened amid heightened tensions as police officers provided security during the demolition of structures allegedly carried out by private developer Frederick Kofi Asare.

Seth, who has since been discharged from the University Medical Centre in Accra, said he is still recovering and has been unable to return to school.

According to him, his family had to take a loan of more than GH¢20,000 to cover his medical expenses. He added that no police officer has visited him since the incident.

Speaking to Adom News, the teenager appealed to the Interior Minister and the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the shooting and assist with his medical bills.

Residents of Domeabra, Danchira and Ashalaja say fear continues to grip the area following the incident. According to them, the developer is expected to return for another demolition exercise on Friday, raising concerns over possible renewed clashes.

Some residents warned that the situation could escalate if authorities fail to intervene.

At a press conference, Nii Commey, Head of the Four Family of Danchira, called on government and the police to halt the demolition exercise to avoid further violence and tension in the community.

The family and community leaders are also demanding a full inquiry into the shooting incident and accountability for those involved.
