Cybercrime crackdown: 39 arrested in joint CSA-CID operation in Tema

A joint security operation by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has led to the arrest of 39 individuals at Adom City Estate in Tema Community 25, Greater Accra, in what officials describe as a major blow to cybercrime networks.

The suspects were picked up in the early hours of Thursday, August 21, following weeks of intelligence-led surveillance. Among those detained were three minors and a woman believed to be an escort linked to one of the alleged ringleaders.

According to law enforcement sources, the raid specifically targeted a residence suspected to be operating as a cyber fraud hub. The operation, carried out under tight security, resulted in the seizure of several digital devices, including laptops and mobile phones, which are now being examined for forensic evidence.

All 39 suspects have since been transferred to the CID Headquarters in Accra, where they will undergo further interrogation and profiling. Authorities assured that due process will be followed, particularly in handling the cases of the minors involved.

Officials from the CSA explained that the swoop forms part of a broader national campaign to combat online fraud, financial scams, and other internet-based crimes that continue to affect individuals and institutions across the country.

The CSA also urged the public to remain vigilant against suspicious online activities, while the CID reiterated its commitment to dismantling cybercrime syndicates nationwide.

This latest operation adds to a series of recent raids as security agencies intensify efforts to contain the growing threat of cyber-enabled criminal activities.
