Compassion Int’l Ghana’s GH₵2 million project provides 22 homes in Kintampo

Approximately 22 families in Kintampo who once lived in cramped, unsafe spaces now have secure and permanent homes, thanks to a GH₵2 million housing initiative by Compassion International Ghana in partnership with local churches.

The project was inspired by Dutch athletes who, during the 2023 Muskathlon charity event, saw firsthand the housing challenges facing some families.

Their experience led to a commitment to not only provide shelter but also restore dignity and hope to vulnerable residents of the community.

At the handover ceremony on Thursday, August 1, 2025, in Nante, municipal leaders, traditional authorities, pastors, and community members gathered to celebrate the milestone.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the National Director of Compassion International Ghana, Kobina Yeboah Okyere stressed that the project was “not just about bricks and mortar” but about “restored hope, renewed dignity, and the promise of stability for families who, for years, have longed for a safe and permanent place to call home.”

He added that the effort reflected Compassion’s vision of building “thriving and resilient families,” noting that a safe home “fosters peace, offers stability, and becomes a sacred space where children can dream, grow and flourish.”

The initiative began in October 2023 during the Muskathlon in Kintampo, when visiting Dutch athletes encountered the severe housing conditions affecting some beneficiaries of Compassion International Ghana.

Deeply moved, they partnered through Compassion Netherlands to fund the construction of 22 one-bedroom homes, each fitted with a kitchen, toilet, and bathroom.

District Chief Executive for Kintampo South, Zurri Wilfred, commended the organization for its sustained contributions to the area and urged recipients to maintain their new properties.

One beneficiary, a mother who had previously shared a single room with eight other people, expressed heartfelt appreciation: “I am so grateful to Compassion and the church partners for this beautiful home, which will give my children and me the peace and security we have not had in years.”

Compassion International Ghana, a Christian non-profit, has spent the past two decades partnering with more than 450 local churches across 13 regions to deliver holistic child and youth development programmes.

Operating in over 92 districts, it currently serves over 100,000 registered children and youth, providing spiritual, educational, health, and socio-economic support.

The organization’s long-term goal is to reach 150,000 children and young people in poverty-stricken communities by 2030.
