The Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities will on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, stage a peaceful picketing exercise at the Jubilee House to demand action on what it describes as unfulfilled government promises on employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The group said the demonstration follows several press statements, petitions and previous engagements with government and other duty bearers over the unemployment situation facing qualified graduates with disabilities.
According to the Coalition, a commitment to reserve a 5% quota in public sector recruitment for persons with disabilities has not been implemented, leaving many qualified graduates without employment opportunities.
The group said its members continue to face financial difficulties despite possessing the requisite academic qualifications and skills to contribute to national development.
“We are tired of empty pledges and tokenism,” the Coalition said, stressing that it would take its demands for dignity, inclusion and equal access to employment directly to the seat of government.
The protesters are expected to gather at 9:00am at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, also known as the Ghana Blind Union or the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, around the Adabraka Polyclinic, before proceeding with the planned activities.
The exercise will include peaceful picketing, the display of placards and an address to the media.
Convener of the Coalition, Gilbert Boateng Agyare, called on media organisations, journalists, human rights advocates and members of the public to support the group by covering the demonstration.
He said the action was intended to amplify the concerns of hundreds of qualified graduates with disabilities who, according to the Coalition, are seeking only a fair opportunity to work and contribute to Ghana’s development.
The Coalition said it would continue to pursue its demands through peaceful and lawful means until concrete action is taken to address the employment concerns of graduates with disabilities.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TUESDAY 18TH AUGUST 2026
MEDIA INVITATION:
Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities to Picket at Jubilee House Tomorrow Over Unfulfilled Recruitment Promises
The Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities formally invites all media houses, journalists, human rights advocates, and the general public to cover our peaceful picketing exercise scheduled for tomorrow morning at the Jubilee House.
Despite issuing numerous press statements, petitioning duty bearers, and taking to the streets in previous demonstrations, our plight continues to be ignored. We have been repeatedly met with grand promises and assurances, yet none have translated into action. Most notably, the official commitment to reserve a 5% quota in public sector recruitment for persons with disabilities remains a complete mirage.
Qualified, capable graduates with disabilities across Ghana continue to face systemic exclusion, sinking deeper into financial hardship while our degrees gather dust. We are tired of empty pledges and tokenism. Tomorrow, we take our demand for dignity, inclusion, and our lawful right to employment directly to the seat of government.
