Historic cook Chef Faila could not hold back her tears as she signed the Book of Condolences in honour of the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II.

The emotional moment reflected the deep personal bond she shared with the revered Dagbon King, as she joined many others to pay tribute following his passing.

In a heartfelt message, Chef Faila described the death of the Yaa Naa as a painful loss, saying she has struggled to come to terms with the reality that her King and grandfather figure is no longer alive.

She recalled first meeting the late Dagbon Overlord about 12 years ago when she visited his palace in Savelugu seeking his blessings and support for her talent and ambitions.

According to Chef Faila, the late King believed in her abilities and encouraged her journey even when success was still far away.

She said his support became even more meaningful during her Cookathon journey, where he, together with his sub-chiefs, the palace, his sons and the people of Dagbon, rallied behind her and gave her strength.

“The throne has lost a remarkable King, and I have lost a father figure whose wisdom, kindness and unwavering belief in me shaped my journey,” she wrote.

Chef Faila prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the late Yaa Naa and asked for his soul to be granted the highest ranks of paradise.
