The much-anticipated ultramodern VIP Lounge project at the Accra International Airport is nearing completion, with work progressing steadily on the facility.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa inspected the project on Friday and expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and the quality of execution.
According to Mr Ablakwa, the project is expected to be completed and handed over before the end of 2026.
The ongoing works form part of efforts to provide a modern VIP facility at the airport, with the project now at an advanced stage as contractors put finishing touches to the facility.
Photos from the Minister’s inspection show the extent of work completed on the project and the developing features of the new lounge.
Mr Ablakwa also disclosed that the project is being delivered without the use of taxpayer funds.
He said the facility is being funded through a corporate social responsibility arrangement involving local Ghanaian businesses, which release funds directly to local contractors working on the project.
The Foreign Ministry’s Estate Bureau, he explained, is supervising the works to ensure that the required standards are met.
Mr Ablakwa described the project as an example of what can be achieved through private-sector support without relying on public funds and conventional public procurement.
With the completion date approaching, attention is now on the final stages of work before the facility is handed over later this year.
