The Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), has commended President Akufo-Addo for meeting the three former heads of state to discuss issues of national interest.

According to the head of Research and Programmes at CDD-Ghana, Dr. Franklin Oduro the gesture will set as a good platform for all the presidents to share their experiences with the sitting president to ensure good governance in the interest of the citizenry.

Dr. Oduro in an interview with Adom News at a Multi-stakeholders social Accountability Policy Advocacy Forum organized by the Penplusbytes with support of Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) said such meetings will allow the former presidents to exchange ideas.

“It is not compulsory for the president to take or implement their suggestions during such meeting but he can pick some” Dr. Oduro emphasized.

His comment follows Tuesday’s meeting organized by President, Akufo-Addo with the three former leaders, John Dramani Mahama, John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings to discuss issues on the economy, security and other social political issues with President Akufo-Addo.

But speaking with Adom News, Dr.Oduro said the former heads of state also deserves commendation for honoring the sitting president’s invitation.

Dr. Oduro added that the gesture does not mean that Ghana’s democracy has matured enough as compared to the advance country’s democracy.

He also called on President Akufo-Addo to organize series of meetings with former presidents to tap into their experience on governance to improve it administration.
