Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has defended the decision to appoint Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, insisting the move has delivered positive results.
The experienced Portuguese coach was handed the reins of the senior national team on a short-term contract after the dismissal of Otto Addo, with less than three months remaining before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite the limited preparation time and criticism surrounding his tactical approach, Queiroz guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
Oduro Sarfo believes the appointment of the former Egypt and Iran coach was justified, highlighting the impact he had on the players and the team’s performances at the global showpiece.
“The decision to sack Otto Addo and bring in Carlos Queiroz has paid off. If you look at Queiroz’s relationship with the players, the respect the players give him is different,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
“At the World Cup, we played four games, and we could all see the difference. We saw the game plan against Panama, and I believe England will be disappointed for not being able to score against Ghana.
“Carlos Queiroz had no option but to come up with a game plan because there was no time when he took over,” he added.
Queiroz took charge of the Black Stars shortly before the World Cup and focused on building a disciplined side capable of competing against some of the world’s top teams.
Ghana’s next major task will be preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the future of Queiroz expected to be decided in the coming days.
The Black Stars have been placed in Group C alongside Gambia, Ivory Coast and Somalia, with the qualification campaign set to begin in September.
