Carlos Queiroz is set to continue as head coach of Ghana after making significant progress towards a new agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The Portuguese coach is reportedly close to finalising fresh terms with the GFA after his outstanding payments, as well as those owed to members of his backroom staff, were settled.
The financial obligations relate to the team’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America and had been a major issue in discussions over the coach’s future.
The payments were facilitated by the GFA through the Ministry of Sports and are understood to have removed a significant obstacle to Queiroz extending his stay with the Black Stars.
With the outstanding amounts now settled, negotiations over a new contract are at an advanced stage, with an agreement expected to be reached soon.
Queiroz, 73, was appointed in April following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March after a disappointing run of results.
The former Egypt and Colombia coach initially signed a four-month contract, taking charge in the build-up to the World Cup.
Under Queiroz, Ghana reached the knockout phase of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico before their campaign ended in the last 32.
The Portuguese coach is now expected to lead the Black Stars into the next phase of their campaign, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ghana will begin their qualifying campaign away to Côte d’Ivoire on September 24, 2026, at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké.
They will then return home to face The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 27.
The Black Stars are determined to secure a place at the 2027 AFCON after missing out on the previous edition of the tournament, hosted by Morocco.
Queiroz’s continued presence would provide Ghana with some continuity as the team seeks to rebuild and establish itself as a competitive force ahead of the next continental tournament.
