Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo believes Medeama SC still have every chance of reaching the next round of the CAF Champions League despite their first-leg defeat to TP Mazembe.
The Ghana Premier League champions suffered a 1-0 loss at home to the DR Congo giants in the preliminary round first leg at TNA Park on Sunday.
Medeama now face a difficult trip to Lubumbashi for the return leg this weekend, but Oduro Sarfo insists the tie remains finely balanced.
“It is not over for Medeama,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
“I think they can go there and make a statement. They should motivate themselves, go there and cause an upset just like what Mazembe has done in the first leg.”
The GFA executive also backed the Tarkwa-based club’s summer recruitment, arguing that their strengthened squad is capable of producing a surprise result away from home.
“With the recruitment Medeama has done, I think they can go and make a statement,” he added.
Medeama are bidding to reach the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time since the 2023-24 campaign.
