In the wake of the military burning some hardware over sand-winning in Dalun in the Northern Region, the Northern Regional Secretary of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Abdul Rauf, has called for the resignation of the Regional Minister.
A statement issued and read by the Regional Secretary accused the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Salifu Sa-eed, of being at the center of the actions of the military.

According to him, the behavior of the Regional Minister is a clear manifestation of the ruling party’s mantra of vigilantism which is gradually creeping into officialdom.
Mr. Abdul Rauf added  that Hon. Salifu Sa-eed will do himself some good by stepping down for exercising wrong judgment and indiscretion.
In an interview with Adom News on the sidelines of the press conference, Chairman of the NDC in the region, Mr Sofo Azorka said the actions of the military are bad, and as such, if the Regional Minister says he is not aware of the actions of the military then the  Army boss in the region should resign.

NDC’s call for restraint
The NDC has however called on members of the affected Tipper Truck Drivers Association in Tamale to exercise maximum restraint and resort to using due process in seeking redress from the court.
The association says they will wait for a response from the chiefs of Tamale after the chiefs summoned the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Salifu Saeed to a meeting.
Background
The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), led by the Regional Minister had given sand winners in the area a one week’s ultimatum to vacate the site.
According to REGSEC, the illegal sand winning was negatively affecting the operations of Ghana Water Company Limited in the area.
The activities of the sand winners, according to REGSEC, was causing erosion and increasing the turbidity of raw water thereby increasing the cost of treatment of mater in the area.
The failure of the sand-winners to comply with the directives by the Regional Security Council led to the burning of 14 trucks, 1 excavator and some motorbikes belonging to the sand-winners.
