Shop owners and business operators at Bunso Junction in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region have appealed to the District Assembly to urgently evacuate a refuse dump situated close to the Ghana Red Cross Society emergency post.
The offensive stench from the dump, along with related health and environmental concerns, has compelled workers at the Bunso Red Cross Emergency Centre to abandon the facility for more than two years.
Drivers, residents and traders in the area who spoke to Joy News said the situation is taking a toll on their health and economic activities. Some businesses, they revealed, have been forced to shut down due to the persistent foul odour and unhygienic conditions.

In response, the Fanteakwa South District Assembly said measures are underway to evacuate and relocate the refuse dump to a more suitable location. The Assembly is also encouraging households to acquire personal waste bins to help curb improper waste disposal and prevent future environmental challenges.
The District Chief Executive, Mercy Korang, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to resolving the problem and restoring public health and safety at Bunso Junction.
