A seven-year-old boy, identified only as Kwame, was swept away by floodwaters at Abrepo Bronikrom in the Bantama Constituency of the Ashanti Region on Saturday, 27 September 2025.

According to reports, Kwame had been playing with two friends in the rain when one of their slippers drifted into a nearby gutter. In an attempt to retrieve it, he was overpowered by the strong current.

Eyewitnesses said the other children tried to raise an alarm and attempted a rescue, but the force of the water carried him away.

A search party was quickly formed, but as of Sunday morning, efforts to locate the boy had not been successful.

Kojo Mensah, a resident, described the atmosphere in the community as tense and sorrowful. “We’ve been there several times.

A fetish priest was even called in, and rituals were performed, but we still haven’t found him. We are terrified because this has never happened here before,” he said.

By Sunday, there had been no official response from the police or formal rescue teams, leaving residents to continue the search on their own.
