The Assin Fosu District court presided over by His worship Gyane Quotey has sentenced a 15-year-old boy to 2 years in a borstal home for stealing an Itel P12 mobile phone worth Ghc400.00 in Assin Nsuta market.

According to Prosecutor Francis Onyinah, the accused, Emmanuel Ankrah who is a school dropout stole the phone from one Emmanuel Gadzonu, a mobile money vendor in Assin Nsuta, around 1:00 am while he was asleep.

The complainant started calling his phone after he realised he was without it before the phone’s ringing tone directed him to the suspect.

Speaking to Adom News, the accused person explained that he perpetrated the act because he needed money to fend for himself.

“This is the second time I have stolen mobile phones and have sentenced. I was a student of the Nsuta Basic School and was given one cedi each day but because I couldn’t survive with that, I had to find another means of survival,” he explained.

Emmanuel Ankrah however appealed to the court authorities and Emmanuel Gadzonu to forgive him and allow him to be released.
