The Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), Duncan Amoah has claimed that quantities of the off spec oil from the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) is already been sold in the markets.
The off spec fuel, he claimed on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Thursday is already at retail outlets who have also started selling it to customers.
“Some of the off spec products were sold in May this year…some of the filling stations are still being convinced to take some of BOST off specs and mix with the quality ones, I can tell you…,” he said.
Duncan Amoah’s claim is contrary to that of the NPA Boss, Alhassan Tampuli the product has already been released unto the market.
Alhassan Tampuli speaking on the same show on Wednesday allayed the fears of the motoring public on the off spec oil been released unto the market.
“It is not true that contaminated trucks have been released unto the market because the truth is that the trucks are still sitting at the premises of BOST and Zup Oil which bought the oil from Movinpiina has not released the contents of the other trucks…,” he said.
But Duncan Amoah said that the assurances from the NPA Boss is untrue as he has been receiving calls from fuel stations which he could not immediately name telling him that the oil is already on the market.
Five million litres of fuel product was declared off-spec after going through an in-house technical assessment and a laboratory test by the Tema Oil Refinery.
It followed what BOST termed as “human error” which led to the contamination of the product which is said to have resulted in GH ¢7 million loss of revenue to the state.
The Energy Ministry is setting up an eight (8) member committee to investigate the circumstances that led to the contamination of such larger volumes of oil.
But the COPEC Executive Secretary said, the information at his disposal makes him believe that the committee set up by the ministry may not come out with any better results.
“I won’t be shocked if the committee comes out and claim that there was no wrong doing because there are great industry players who are behind all these and shielding information…,” he said.
Can Mr. Duncan tell us where and which fuel stations are selling this contaminated fuel so we all avoid them?
Since he is representing and protecting the consumer he should tell us which stations are selling the contaminated fuel and where they are located and not just make a blanket statement.
