Ghana’s Black Queens have advanced to the third round of the 2028 Olympic Games women’s football qualifiers after completing a 10-0 aggregate victory over Mauritius.
The Black Queens followed up their 3-0 win in the first leg with a dominant 7-0 victory at the Essipong Stadium on Tuesday to seal their progression.
Despite holding a comfortable advantage from the away fixture, head coach Kim Lars Björkegren named a strong starting line-up as Ghana sought to finish the tie in emphatic fashion.
The hosts dominated the first half, putting Mauritius under sustained pressure and limiting their opportunities to mount attacks.
Evelyn Badu, Portia Boakye and Ajegipina Zakaria scored to give Ghana a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.
The Black Queens maintained their intensity after the restart, with their substitutes making a significant impact in the closing stages.
Benedicte Simon scored in the 73rd minute shortly after coming on, before Jennifer Cudjoe added a fifth goal in the 87th minute.
Nancy Amoh and Mukarama Abdulai then struck late to complete the 7-0 victory and underline Ghana’s dominance over the two legs.
Ghana will face Zambia in the third round of qualifying in February next year after the southern African side eliminated Uganda.
The Black Queens are seeking to qualify for the Olympic Games women’s football tournament for the first time. Ghana have yet to reach the competition since women’s football was introduced at the Olympics in 1996.
