Lawyers for the Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, will ask for self-recognisance bail when his case comes before a court today, Saturday, October 3.
The MP was detained on Thursday, October 1, after he reported to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) with his legal team.
This came after EOCO obtained an arrest warrant in connection with its investigation into suspected unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans.
On October 2, EOCO said it was making the arrangements to bring him before a weekend court.
Speaking to journalists ahead of the hearing, his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, said the MP would continue to cooperate with the investigation if he is granted bail.
“We’re going to press hard. He has been there for two nights. Traditionally, if the person is a politician and he’s not leaving the land, it’s always a self-recognisance bail,” Mr Akyea said. “I think justice will serve a good course for him to be given self-recognisance bail.”
Mr Akyea also dismissed reports that EOCO had set a GH¢50 million bail condition, describing them as unsubstantiated.
