1. Mind your language! Grammar can cost you love

Call them grammar snobs or grammar nerds but we all have that one friend whose biggest turn off is wrongly spelt words or poorly constructed sentences. In short, they are sure to judge people who don’t know the difference between ‘your’ and ‘you’re’ or ‘there’ and ‘their’. A study also found that grammar is a major turn on (or a turn off) while finding a date or a life partner. Read on to know more.

2. The aphrodisiac called grammar

According to a study conducted by online dating site eharmony, grammar can be a big deal-breaker for people who are looking for a date online. As per their study, people with grammatical mistakes on their online dating profiles are 14 per cent less likely to get a response from prospective partners. The most common mistakes that people find exasperating are misused punctuation marks and misspelt words.

3. Men vs. women

It seems women love their partners to be ‘grammatically perfect’. As per the study, 88 per cent of female participants said grammar is an important factor in selecting a partner as compared to 75 per cent of men who said the same.

4. People who would break up for grammar

If you think you are the only person who would not mind breaking-up with a partner because of misspelt words, you aren’t alone. Almost 23 per cent of the participants said that they would break-up with someone who had a poor sense of grammar.

5. Disputes over grammatical errors

Yes, people do fight over grammatical errors. Around 75 per cent of the people who took part in the study conducted by the online dating sites shared that they have disagreements and fights with a partner or spouse over grammar.

6. Grammar plays an important part in how people perceive us

Brad Hoover, the CEO of the online spelling and grammar checking tool Grammarly, had once said that “Quality writing makes a good impression whether that’s in a resumé or your dating profile.” Besides correct spelling and properly-constructed sentences, accurate use of punctuation marks is equally important because how a person frames a grammatically-perfect sentence plays a major role in how people will perceive him or her in all walks of life.

7. Not all are grammar snobs

After reading this, if you are worried that your partner would judge you for your lack of grammatical accuracy, here’s some good news—not all are grammar snobs. Around 43 per cent of the people who were above 45 years said that they aren’t much worried about their partner’s poor grammar. It seems love can conquer all but with time, right?
