The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, has pledged support for victims affected by the recent fire outbreak at the Nima Market in Accra.
Speaking to journalists after visiting the scene, the Ayawaso East lawmaker promised to give GH¢5,000 each to affected traders to help them revive their businesses following the destruction caused by the fire.
Mr Jamal also appealed to the government to support the construction of an ultra-modern market for residents and traders in the constituency to improve trading conditions and help prevent future fire outbreaks.
“Seeing that this is a serious tragedy that affected our people last night, my MCE and NADMO officials all rushed here and were able to help. But you can see that some serious devastation has taken place,” he said.
“I want to send my heartfelt sympathies to the people who have lost their wares, and also to all the people in this market.”
He further called on the government and the public to support victims affected by the incident.
“I call on the government, our president, and the entire nation to come and assist in these difficult times,” he added.
According to him, some of the affected traders had already submitted their details to him for immediate assistance.
“A few people who have been affected have given me their list. And so, on my own, I want to offer GH¢5,000 to each of the victims in the interim,” Mr Jamal stated.
