The Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has condemned the violence in the just ended Ayawaso West-Wuogon by-election.

The CDD-Ghana says the violence, characterized by a sporadic firing of guns and attacks during the polls were unacceptable.

The CDD’s condemnation comes after violence and gunshots marred Thursday’s by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency which saw the NPP’s candidate declared the winner.

Programme Officer at CDD-Ghana, Paul Mensah Abrampa has told Adom FM’s morning show “Dwaso Nsem” Friday, that there appears to be lack of coordination among security agencies.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, he warned that if situations are not controlled, security in the country will break down.

“Ghana is not safe; what happened yesterday was very bad and should not be entertained. It is unfortunate. We need to strategize and put in place measures to avoid such occurrences; our leaders need to act fast,” he noted.

Mr Abrampa added that the CDD found the happenings as unacceptable, urging law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of the violence.
