Family members of Patrick Adenyo, the man who was shot by a police patrol team on Monday night are demanding justice.

The family believes a thorough investigation will reveal rationale behind Patrick’s killing.

His death has drawn bad blood between residents of Tema New Town and police with threat from youth of Tema New Town to retaliate.

Patrick Adenyo, believed to be in his early 20s, was gunned down in the area last night by a patrol team of the Tema police after allegedly wrestling a gun from a police officer during an arrest.

Tema Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joseph Benefo Darkwah said the deceased was shot by another police officer who sensed the arresting officers were in danger.

He explained the intention of the police officer was not to kill him.

Narrating the incident, DSP Benefo Darkwah said the police had information about a robbery operation in the area where a vehicle of a foreigner was being taken from him.

He said when the patrol team arrived at the scene, the deceased ran away, leaving his accomplice behind. One of the officers went after him and succeeded in overpowering him.

Meanwhile, a delegation made up of Tema East MP, Daniel Titus-Glover, Tema Regional Commander, DCOP George Tuffour, his 2IC, and Crime Officer visited the family to sympathize with the family.

But Chief of Ewe Community at Tema New Town, Torgbui Datsomor II who spoke on behalf of the bereaved family said all they need from the government is to ensure justice prevails.

Listen to the chief

Meanwhile, Tema East MP, Daniel Titus-Glover has asked the family to take heart as IGP has instructed the Homicide Unit of the CID to over the case.

The MP is urging the Police Administration to deal with the officer who shot Patrick dead if found culpable.

He has however asked the angry youth to exercise restraint as investigation into Patrick Adenyo’s death is underway.
