Private legal practitioner and a former Deputy Minister for Local Government under Ex-President John Kufuor’s administration, has warned military officers against what he described as plot against the presidency.
Captain (Rtd) Nkrabea Effah-Dartey noted that the alleged evidence gathered during the arrest of the said persons and the involvement of some military officers, should not be taken for granted.
The former Member of Parliament for Berekum constituency was reacting to the government’s press release that said between June and August 2018, the alleged coup plotters contacted a number of serving military personnel, and talked them into hatching and executing a plot to obtain weapons, take over key installations, and secure funding for the purpose of taking over the reins of government.
But, Captain Effah-Dartey warned soldiers in the country not to make any attempt to overthrow a sitting government because it would be unsuccessful.
“Any soldier listening to me at this moment should not make any reckless or misguided attempt to stage any coup because you won’t succeed. You will be driven out of wherever you are. If you want to be a president of Ghana, just go and form a political party and not think of plotting a coup,” he told Accra based Neat FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.
He commended the security agencies for their timeliness as far as the matter is concerned.
