The over 16,000 customers of defunct gold dealership firm, Menzgold are heaving a sign of relief following the return of the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1.

They are convinced the embattled businessman has returned with cash to settle all of them.

“We have fasted and prayed for NAM 1’s return and God has answered our prayers. Will we all get our monies,” a customer, Nana Kwesi Afewuah said on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Friday.

The embattled businessman arrived in Ghana Thursday, July 11, 2019 after more than half a year of legal battles in the United Arab Emirates.

He had been in detention in Dubai since December 7, 2018 when he was arrested in that country on charges of defrauding a business partner there.

After months of legal tussle, NAM 1 was released as prosecutors could not prove their case of fraud against him and the court in Dubai ordered that he be paid a sum of $39 million as payment for gold Menzgold supplied to another company.

But, his woes were far from over as he was whisked away by the police upon arrival at the Kotoko International Airport.

He was denied bail and is expected to stand trial for defrauding by false pretenses among other charges.

But, the happy customer believes his [NAM 1] detention by the police is mere formality.

“So far as he is in Ghana we are okay because we know definitely we will get our money because he has returned with it,” he opined.

Mr Afewuah appealed to the police to expedite action on the trial process so that NAM 1 could start paying them.

“We have been patient for close to a year and we can’t wait again so the police must act swiftly for him to pay us,” he added.
