Some attendants at the Korle Bu mortuary are worried over the lack of attention from government with regard to their welfare.
The mortuary attendants cited concerns including increment of their salaries, improvement of their health benefits and other incentives.
One of the attendants, Simon Ayivor who spoke to Adom News’ Shine Acquah said despite the risk associated with their work and their service to the society, they do not get the necessary assistance nor respect from management and the society as a whole.
“We are appealing to government to increase our salary and provide us with some flexible working conditions because we are suffering too much.
“Just imagine the hard chemicals we use in preserving the dead bodies, we have no risk allowance nor special doctors to attend to us should anything happen to us and it has become a big worry to us,” he said.
He also complained bitterly about their allowances urging government to immediately come to their aid to help them in discharging their duties without any interference.
Meanwhile casket makers on the Korle-Bu road are also pleading with government to construct a market where they can solely display their produce.
Solomon Agyiri Quarcoopome manager at Aflah Quarcoo Casket Enterprise says they struggle in acquiring lands to make their caskets because most landlords do not like to give their lands out for caskets to be made.
