A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi East has revealed that the government ignored his warnings not to sign the concession agreement with Power Distribution Services (PDS).

Edward Enin claimed his warnings were ignored and they “squeezed the necks of someone just to favour a Ghanaian.
“PDS from beginning was not clean technically, financially but my people ignored my warnings. Now we have to defend this shameful thing,” he stated in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Wednesday.
Government suspended the PDS deal after it discovered that there were fraudulent activities involved in the deal.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, signed by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the government said the decision was taken after some fundamental and material breaches were detected on the part of PDS.
But, Mr Enin, who was also a former vice chairman of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament, revealed that the agreement was suspended after the demand guarantees presented by PDS was probed.

“PDS did not have money and even went to BXC [a company disqualified during the bid] for financial support,” he alleged.
The former Obuasi East MP blamed the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) for not doing due diligence before awarding the contract to PDS.
“These guys at MiDA must be questioned for this embarrassment. They should sit up,” he fumed.
Mr Enin is hoping the government would abrogate the contract with PDS after the investigations.
