The Asutifi District Police Command in the Ahafo Region has cautioned commercial motorbike (Okada) and pragia riders in Kenyasi against reckless riding and other road safety violations.
The District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Harold Opoku Yamoah Ponkor, said the disregard for road safety regulations among some riders was contributing to road crashes, some of which result in deaths and permanent disabilities.
Speaking to Adom News at Kenyasi during a free DVLA registration exercise organised by the Asutifi North Member of Parliament, Chief Superintendent Ponkor urged riders to exercise greater caution and comply with traffic regulations.
He said some commercial motorbike and pragia operators continued to ignore road safety rules despite repeated warnings from the authorities.
According to him, riders must recognise that roads are shared by all road users and therefore have a responsibility to operate their vehicles in a manner that does not endanger others.
“The roads are not meant for them alone,” he stressed, urging riders to respect traffic laws and prioritise the safety of passengers, pedestrians and other motorists.
The Police Commander further warned that the police would no longer entertain excuses when riders are arrested for reckless riding.
He said offenders would be prosecuted, regardless of appeals from the riders or other stakeholders.
Chief Superintendent Ponkor therefore advised Okada and pragia operators in the district to change their attitude towards road safety to help reduce accidents and save lives.
