A candidate vying for the chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) UK branch has urged delegates to look beyond campaign promises and assess contestants based on their track records, experience and the practicality of their proposed plans ahead of Saturday’s branch elections.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show, the candidate said delegates must move away from making decisions based solely on campaign messages and instead examine the details behind each candidate’s vision for the future of the party.
He argued that political leadership requires more than promises, stressing the need for candidates to present clear, measurable and realistic plans that can be evaluated by party members.
“My final word to delegates and to the patriots that are going into this election on Saturday is that we have an opportunity to create the NPP UK that we want and give us the opportunity to come to power,” he said.
“Assess candidates based on their past record, the experiences they bring onto the table, the policies they put forward, but more importantly, the detailing that they are presenting to you because we have to move away from campaigns and look at the details,” he added.
The candidate said his Blueprint document was developed to provide a structured roadmap for transforming the NPP UK branch and aligning its activities with the party’s broader objective of returning to power in 2028.
According to him, the document outlines specific actions, timelines and measurable outcomes that delegates can use to hold him accountable if given the mandate.
“I have put out this blueprint document from day one to the four-year mandate, highlighting from the first 30 days, from the first 60 days to 100 days, all the way through to 2028 as well,” he said.
“Everything is well thought through in terms of measurable outcomes. Hold me by those standards,” he added.
Explaining the vision behind the document, he said the blueprint is built around five key pillars aimed at strengthening the NPP UK branch ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He highlighted unity and trust-building as a major priority, saying the branch must operate with a shared purpose to effectively support the national party.
“One of the focal points is the unity and trust that I talk about, building a united, purpose-driven NPP UK branch which will allow the national party to have a shared common goal going into election 2028,” he said.
He also identified stronger party structures, member welfare and financial sustainability as critical areas requiring attention.
On funding, the candidate, who said he has 18 years of experience in financial services and runs a regulated financial services company in the UK, proposed moving away from election-cycle fundraising to a more sustainable approach.
He said the party should introduce structured membership contributions involving patrons, funding members and ordinary members, similar to systems used by the national party.
He also proposed establishing an NPP UK Foundation Trust as a special-purpose vehicle to leverage the party’s membership base and generate sustainable income to support party activities.
According to him, the NPP UK currently has about 1,200 members, a number he intends to increase if given the mandate.
The candidate said his experience working at various levels of the party informed his decision to contest the chairmanship position.
He recounted his involvement in party activities at the chapter and national levels, including contributing to the NPP UK’s 2024 campaign strategy and working with various committees.
He also cited his involvement in initiatives during the COVID-19 period and his role in promoting the introduction of electric buses in Ghana as part of his contribution to national development efforts.
The NPP UK branch elections are scheduled for Saturday, with delegates expected to elect new executives to lead the branch ahead of the party’s preparations for the 2028 general elections.
