The Mfantsipim Old Boys Association has officially invited the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to the school’s 150th anniversary celebrations scheduled for November 2026.
A delegation from the Methodist Church, the school and the Old Boys Association, led by former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, extended the invitation to the Asantehene during a visit to the Manhyia Palace.
The delegation briefed the King on the school’s anniversary plans, noting that Mfantsipim is celebrating 150 years of academic, moral and civic education this year.
The Asantehene accepted the invitation and confirmed his intention to attend the celebrations, recalling that the delegation had visited the palace a year ago to brief him on the anniversary roadmap.
“We will come when the time is due. They came a year ago to inform me about their plans for the anniversary. If only God gives us life, we will come when the time is due,” he assured.
Otumfuo commended Mfantsipim School for its distinguished legacy and its contribution to national development through the training of influential leaders across various sectors of society.
“The school has produced a lot of great people and has helped Ghana a lot. We will honour the school too,” he added.
Mfantsipim School, established on April 3, 1876, is Ghana’s oldest secondary school and has produced prominent personalities who have contributed to the country’s development.
The 150th anniversary celebrations, which will climax in November, have already featured a series of commemorative activities bringing together alumni, students, school authorities and other stakeholders to celebrate the institution’s achievements and reflect on its future.
The anniversary is also expected to provide an opportunity to renew the school’s commitment to academic excellence, character formation and service to Ghana.
