Asante Kotoko right-back Lord Amoah has successfully undergone surgery after suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
The 22-year-old promising defender has been sidelined since Kotoko’s Premier League clash against Young Apostles in March, where he sustained the injury in the second half. Medical assessments later confirmed a combination of an ACL tear and a medial meniscus injury.
In a statement, the club confirmed the successful procedure and outlined the next phase of his recovery.
“Lord Amoah has undergone a successful surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament, an injury he sustained during our Premier League match against Young Apostles,” the club said.
“The right back will now begin his recovery and rehab at the club with support from our medical staff.”
Amoah has been one of Kotoko’s standout performers this season, making 23 appearances and contributing nine goals from defence.
His long-term absence comes at a difficult time for the Porcupine Warriors, who are enduring a poor run of form in the Ghana Premier League. The slump has seen them drop to sixth place, 10 points behind leaders Medeama SC.
The downturn in results has already triggered changes in the technical team, with interim coach Prince Owusu stepping down. Youth trainer Hamza Obeng has since taken over on an interim basis until the end of the campaign.
Kotoko are next in action against Dreams FC in their upcoming league fixture next weekend as they look to steady their season.
