An aspirant for the position of Women’s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asante Akyem constituency, Precious Aboagye, has announced her withdrawal from the contest.
In a statement issued with what she described as “profound gratitude and a heavy heart,” Ms. Aboagye said her decision followed deep reflection and careful consideration.
She noted that although her ambition to serve the party and support women in the constituency remained strong, recent developments surrounding her candidature had become a source of controversy.
“In recent days, my aspiration to lead the women’s wing has become the subject of various allegations and unnecessary controversy,” she stated.
She explained that her decision to step down was aimed at preserving unity within the party and preventing further division ahead of the NPP’s broader political objectives.
“Rather than allow these developments to create further division or distract from our collective purpose, I have chosen to step aside in the interest of unity. The success of the NPP and our shared ambition of securing victory in 2028 must always take precedence over individual aspirations,” she added.
Ms. Aboagye expressed appreciation to constituency executives, including Dr Edward Asadu, the MAANGA fraternity, her campaign team and supporters who backed her bid, saying their encouragement and prayers meant a great deal to her.
She also assured party members that her withdrawal from the race did not amount to a withdrawal from active service to the party.
“Although I withdraw from this contest, I do not withdraw from service,” she said, adding that she remained committed to supporting the party in any capacity she may be called upon.
She concluded by calling for unity and continued cooperation within the constituency as the party works toward its broader electoral goals.
