Farmers in Asante Akyem Agogo, located in the Asante Akyem North Municipality of the Ashanti Region, are urging President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action to resolve the long-standing conflict between nomadic herdsmen and farmers.
According to them, the persistent challenges posed by herdsmen continue to hinder agricultural activities in the area. They are calling for a permanent solution to restore peace and safeguard the future of farming in the region.
Speaking to the media, Akua Pokuaa, a former Best Farmer award winner in the community, recalled that a previous government had promised to form a committee to address the issue, but the initiative failed to materialise.
“The past government assured us that a committee would be formed to resolve the farmer-herder clashes, but it didn’t happen. We’re now appealing to the current administration to bring a lasting solution to this problem,” she said.
Agogo is recognised as one of the top farming zones in the Ashanti Region, with approximately 7,120 hectares of land cultivated with staple crops such as maize, cassava, plantain, and tomatoes.
