A 52-year-old anti-illegal mining campaigner and spiritualist, Baba Ibrahim, popularly known as Alhaji Nagode, has been found dead in what is suspected to be a suicide incident at Assin Amoabeng, a suburb of Nyankumase Ahenkuro in the Assin South District of the Central Region.
According to his 14-year-old daughter, the incident occurred at about 6:40 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026.
She said her father asked her to take her younger sibling to school and return for money to buy food. However, after returning about 30 minutes later, she found her father hanging by a rope around his neck.
The teenager said she raised an alarm, attracting community members who came to her assistance.
Alhaji Nagode was reportedly a spiritualist and farmer who was also actively involved in advocating against illegal mining activities, which posed threats to the environment.
The exact circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been officially established.
However, his daughter disclosed that her father was involved in a court case with a man in the community, with the case reportedly scheduled to be heard today.
He had seven children, with the youngest reportedly being five years old.
Although he was no longer living with his wife, his daughter said the family had been shocked by his sudden death.
The Assembly Member for the area, Ekow Sadique Aidoo, has confirmed the incident and said the matter had been reported to the police.
