President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a 1,238-acre industrial park at Afienya, in a move aimed at boosting manufacturing, attracting investment and creating jobs.

The project is expected to accommodate more than 120 enterprises and provide essential infrastructure, including electricity, water, road networks and waste treatment facilities, to enable businesses to establish factories and commence production.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 15, President Mahama said the development was necessary to meet growing demand from investors following the exhaustion of available space at the Tema Export Processing Zone.

He explained that the industrial park would provide additional space for businesses seeking to establish manufacturing operations in Ghana, while supporting the government’s broader industrialisation agenda.

The President also disclosed that the proposed $10-billion New Economy Programme would support infrastructure development at the park.

The initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to expand domestic production, reduce reliance on imported goods and increase exports as Ghana seeks to strengthen its industrial base and create more employment opportunities.
