A fire outbreak has destroyed four container shops and two rooms at Atasemanso in Kumasi, leaving one person injured and a pregnant woman homeless.
The fire is believed to have started in one of the container shops in the early hours of Tuesday, before spreading to nearby structures.
Speaking to Adom News, the pregnant woman, Adiza, said she and her husband heard an explosion from a nearby container shop at about 6 a.m., shortly before the fire spread to their room and destroyed their belongings.

“My husband and I rushed to retrieve some of our belongings, but we could not save them as the fire destroyed everything, leaving us homeless,” she lamented.
Adiza said she, her husband, and their children managed to escape from the room safely.
“I need help because I have only a few days left before delivery, but all my belongings have been burnt,” she appealed.
Properties worth millions of cedis, including bales of second-hand clothing, were destroyed in the fire.

The Assembly Member for Atasemanso, Abdul Samid, confirmed to Adom News that one woman sustained injuries and was rushed to the Atasemaso Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations, he said, suggest that a gas cylinder explosion may have triggered the fire.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that it was a cylinder explosion. The woman who was using the cylinder sustained injuries following a gas leak,” he said.
According to him, the swift intervention of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) prevented the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
