Former Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) chairman Kudjoe Fianoo has called on Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku and his entire Executive Council to resign, insisting that sweeping changes are needed to revive Ghana football.

Fianoo believes the current leadership has failed to deliver the expected progress since taking office, arguing that the need to address the country’s football challenges should outweigh concerns about potential FIFA sanctions.

Speaking to Graphic Sports, the veteran football administrator cited Ghana’s 4-2 home defeat by The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers as evidence of the problems facing the sport.

However, he stressed that the challenges extend beyond the Black Stars, highlighting concerns about football infrastructure, youth development and the performances of other national teams.

Fianoo also criticised what he described as an administrative culture in which personal interests take precedence over the wider development of the game.

Okraku, who became GFA president in October 2019, is facing renewed scrutiny following Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.

Fianoo argued that the GFA president had been given enough time to demonstrate progress and should accept responsibility for the current state of Ghana football.

“You can give him an excuse in your first four years, or even in your first two years. But if it is not progressing, it is rather regressing,” he said.

The former AshantiGold chief executive officer insisted that responsibility should not rest solely on Okraku, calling for the entire Executive Council to step aside.

“He headed a body that failed to perform. So they should all leave,” Fianoo added.

Ghana’s disappointing qualifying campaign also preceded the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz, leaving the GFA facing the task of appointing a new coach as it seeks to turn the team’s fortunes around.

The Black Stars will return to action in November when they face Somalia in a doubleheader at the Accra Sports Stadium in their Matchday Three and Four fixtures of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
