Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has disclosed that he has earned about $45,000 from gifts received during his TikTok livestreams, highlighting social media as an additional source of income for musicians.
He made the revelation during an appearance on rapper YPee’s podcast, The Real Ones, where he spoke about how he transitioned from Facebook Live to TikTok.
Shatta Wale said he was initially reluctant to join the platform because he viewed it as a space largely dominated by Generation Z users.
He credited Ghanaian content creator Jackline Mensah for repeatedly encouraging him to try TikTok Live after he had been engaging fans through Facebook Live.
“It used to be Facebook live at first. Until this lady named Jackline Mensah kept pressuring me to go on TikTok live,” he recalled.
“At first I was skeptical, ‘what am I doing with TikTok? I’m not a Gen Z,’ but then other people kept pressuring me until I decided to check it out.”
The musician said the decision had proved financially rewarding, with virtual gifts from viewers generating substantial earnings.
“When I open my TikTok account, I have made about $45,000 on there, because I get a lot of gifts during my livestreams,” he said.
Shatta Wale added that social media earnings complement the income he makes from live performances and music streaming.
He also urged upcoming musicians and creative entrepreneurs to remain consistent in promoting their work and engaging audiences, stressing that regular promotion is essential to succeeding in the music industry.
“So anyone who wants to be in the music business, he or she has to be consistent in promoting his/her products,” he advised.
