The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has announced that social welfare officers will monitor the welfare of Ghanaian fashion icon Nana Akua Addo’s children.
The announcement followed a meeting between the sector minister, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and Nana Akua Addo’s husband, Harold Norman, after he was discharged from hospital.
The officers, according to a social media post by the ministry, will help make sure the children’s safety and best interest stay a priority. They will work with the Police and other relevant institutions, which are supporting the family while the Police investigation continues.
“During the meeting, the Minister emphasised that the immediate priority is to ensure the safety, wellbeing and emotional welfare of the family, especially the children. She stressed the importance of providing them with a safe and stable environment, free from conflict and circumstances that adversely affect their development,” the post reads.
Mr Norman was not available when Dr Lartey visited the family earlier because he was receiving medical care.
The minister also pointed out that the family needs appropriate psychosocial and social welfare support to protect everyone’s emotional wellbeing.
The Police are investigating allegations of physical, emotional and economic abuse made against Mr Norman by his wife, Rosemond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua Addo.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 7, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) said it received her petition on August 20. Mr Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27 to assist with investigations. He gave a caution statement and was granted police enquiry bail with two sureties on August 29 while investigations continued.
The CID also said a case involving the couple was handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Lakeside and Ministries police stations in July 2026.
Mr Norman was due in court on October 7, but his lawyer told the Police he had been admitted to hospital. The Police said he would be arraigned immediately after his discharge.
The Gender Ministry has warned that violence against women and children will not be tolerated.
Nana Akua Addo’s lawyers have said the footage was leaked without her knowledge or consent, and Mr Norman’s legal team has disputed the narrative around it. The allegations have not been tested in court.
