The Obuasi East Municipal Education Director, Kwabena Owusu Nketia, says prioritising teachers’ welfare and ensuring they receive fair treatment could help prevent industrial actions in the education sector.
He made the remarks after Bawa Rock Limited donated items worth GH¢160,000 towards the 2026 Obuasi East Municipal Teachers’ Awards.
The awards scheme is intended to recognise and motivate teachers to improve teaching and learning across the municipality.
Speaking to Adom News, Mr Owusu Nketia said the donated prizes, which include television sets and double-decker refrigerators, would serve as an incentive for teachers to remain committed to their work.
He noted that purchasing some of the items through personal earnings or loans could take teachers several years, making the recognition particularly valuable.
According to him, consistently rewarding teachers and addressing their welfare concerns could improve morale and reduce the likelihood of industrial disputes.
The Business Development and Sustainability Lead at Bawa Rock Limited, Eric Addae Boateng, said the company had provided items valued at GH¢160,000 to support the upcoming awards ceremony.

He explained that the contribution forms part of the company’s commitment to encouraging teachers to improve their performance and help develop the next generation of professionals.
Mr Boateng said the initiative was also intended to support the long-term development of the Obuasi East Municipality by recognising the important role teachers play in shaping future leaders and skilled workers.
