Ghana football legend Mohammed Polo has backed Kassim Mingle and Abdul Karim Zito as potential candidates to take charge of the Black Stars.
Ghana are searching for a new head coach following Carlos Queiroz’s departure on 1 October after the team’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA), working with the Sports Ministry, has formed a five-member technical search committee to identify and recommend candidates for the vacant position.
The committee is expected to submit its report by Friday, 9 October.
Polo, a member of Ghana’s 1978 AFCON-winning team, believes Zito should also be considered for the role.
“That was Zito. Unfortunately, he is not in the scene. I don’t know whether he’s relaxed or whatever,” Polo told Citi Sports.

“But football, there is an option now. Otherwise, I would have said he is someone who can be given the chance to do something.”
Polo also singled out Dreams FC coach Mingle as his preferred candidate.

“To me, Kassim Mingle is the only one that I look at. And they’re giving him Under-17s,” he added.
The Black Stars are under pressure after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and making a poor start to their 2027 qualifying campaign.
Ghana lost 2-0 to Ivory Coast before surrendering a two-goal lead in a 4-2 defeat by The Gambia, leaving them without a point from their opening two Group C matches.
The Black Stars will attempt to revive their campaign in November when they face Somalia in a double-header at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The search committee is also expected to recommend an interim coach to oversee those matches while the process of appointing a substantive head coach continues.
